Wedgewood at The Pines Wedding | Golden, Colorado Wedding Photographer

Driving up to Wedgewood at ThePines in Golden, Colorado, my assistant and I couldn't help but admire the peaceful drive through the towering pines. It wasJune 25, 2026. The sky was softly overcast, creating one of those beautifulColorado afternoons that photographers secretly hope for. Warm, calm, and perfectfor a wedding.

The Venue

Wedgewood at The Pines truly feels like it belongs there. Nestled into the hillside of Golden, Colorado, the venue blends beautifully with the surrounding pine forest, creating a peaceful mountain setting from the moment you arrive.

Walking through the front entrance, we were immediately welcomed by warmwood tones, elegant décor, and thoughtful natural details throughout the venue.One wall was accented with beautiful aspen-inspired elements, while mirrors, soft lighting, and comfortable gathering spaces created an atmosphere that felt both refined and inviting. Everywhere you looked, large windows framed the surrounding pine trees, bringing the beauty of Colorado indoors.

Downstairs, the reception space continued that same feeling of warmth and elegance. The dance floor naturally became the heart of the room, with guest tables arranged on either side and the sweetheart table perfectly positioned infront of a breathtaking wall of windows overlooking the forest. It created abeautiful backdrop for dinner, toasts, and the evening's celebration.

One detail that immediately caught my attention was the wedding cake. Finished in soft white buttercream with sage green and lavender accents, the design reminded me of the graceful lines found in an aspen tree. It was such a creative way to tie the colors and natural surroundings into one beautiful centerpiece.

The groom's suite was located on the same level and was just as thoughtfully designed. Spacious, bright, and comfortable, it featured large mirrors, plentyof room for the guys to get ready, and windows overlooking the surrounding aspens and pine trees. Every part of the venue seemed intentionally designed tomake both the wedding party and their guests feel relaxed while stayingconnected to the beauty just outside.

But stepping outdoors... that's where Wedgewood at The Pines truly takes your breath away.

Outdoor Ceremony Spaces

Stepping outside is where Wedgewood at The Pines truly comes to life. The venue offers two beautiful outdoor ceremony terraces, each tucked naturally into the surrounding forest. Wooden benches and charming timber gazebos blend seamlessly with the landscape, while natural stone walls and pathways create a setting that feels peaceful, private, and uniquely Colorado.

The ceremony site Kayla and Damien chose was especially beautiful. Guests followed a gently winding walkway bordered with native plants, natural stone,and towering pine trees before arriving at the ceremony terrace. Along the way,a small waterfall added the soothing sound of flowing water, making the walk feel less like entering a venue and more like discovering a hidden mountain garden.

One of my favorite details was the way the ceremony space was built into the hillside. The gently tiered landscape gave every guest a wonderful view whilecreating beautiful depth in the photographs. Although it was awarmer-than-usual June afternoon for Colorado, the surrounding pine trees provided welcome shade and created a peaceful, comfortable setting for every one in attendance.

Getting Ready

We arrived around 4:00 p.m. and were immediately welcomed into the bride's getting-ready suite. The room was spacious, bright, and surrounded by largewindows overlooking the pine trees, filling the space with beautiful naturallight. One entire wall was lined with mirrors, making it easy for everyone toget ready while still feeling open and comfortable. Looking back, I realized there was even a pedestal that would have made a stunning spot for a bridal portrait in front of those mirrors. Sometimes you discover the perfect photo opportunity just a little too late!

The room quickly filled with laughter, excited conversations, and the happy energy that only comes before a wedding. Bridesmaids moved from makeup to dresses, family members checked on final details, and every corner of the roomseemed to hold another meaningful moment waiting to be photographed.

It Was Never About The Necklace…

One of my favorite things about photographing weddings is watching all the little moments unfold before anyone walks down the aisle. While the timeline isimportant, it's often the quiet interactions that become some of the mostmeaningful memories.

The groom's suite was filled with laughter as the guys helped each other with ties, jackets, and final touches before the ceremony. Their young son quietly sat nearby, completely content in his own little world. Before he was dressed in his tuxedo, he curled up on a large white sofa wearing a simpleT-shirt, looking so peaceful and independent. It was one of those genuine moments that couldn't be posed, and I knew I wanted to preserve it exactly as it was.

Outside, I gathered Damien and his groomsmen for a few portraits among the trees. Their black suits stood out beautifully against the soft greens of the Colorado landscape. I especially loved one classic portrait where they stood shoulder to shoulder, confident and relaxed. I can already picture that imageas a timeless black-and-white print.

Meanwhile, back in the bridal suite, emotions were beginning to build. Kayla had carefully planned every detail of her wedding day, and in the excitement she realized the delicate necklace she had hoped to wear had been left behind. For a brief moment, you could see the tears starting to form on her beautiful hopeful expression.

Then someone close to her smiled and said, "I have the same necklace. You can wear mine."

I remember her tears and the way she trembled, and my heart just went outto her because I could feel her emotions…

It was her big sister, and I heard Kayla say, Oh my gosh, you have the same necklace, that’s right!  The tears didn’t have a chance… her big sister saved the day.

It was such a simple act of kindness, but moments like that remind me what weddings are really about. They're not about perfect timelines or flawless details. They're about the people who quietly step in to care for one another.

Just like that, the worry disappeared. It wasn't about the jewelry anymore. It was about a sister making sure another sister could walk down the aisle feeling exactly the way she'd dreamed. It was one of those quiet moments that most people never see, but as awedding photographer, I have the privilege of witnessing them. Those are the moments that stay with me.

The Quiet Moments Before the Vows

Throughout the afternoon, I moved back and forth between the gentlemen'ssuite and the bridal suite, making sure I captured both sides of their story.

When I returned to Kayla, I photographed her slipping into her beautifulgown with her mother by her side. We captured the women who would stand besideher, the friends and family who support her and love her. And then, eventually, the room grew quiet.

It was Kayla, her mom, and me.

I remember her tears.

I remember the way her hands trembled.

And I remember the quiet strength of her mother as she stood beside her youngest daughter, helping with those final details. The two of them seemed to lean on one another without needing many words. You could simply feel the depth of their connection.

They helped with the last details of her gown, and then it was time.

More than anything, I remember how deeply Kayla was feeling every moment leading up to that walk down the aisle.

As photographers, we're often invited into the emotions that happen betweenthe big moments. Those quiet minutes are some of my favorites because they'rereal, unfiltered, and impossible to recreate.

When we first spoke while planning their wedding, I knew Kayla had putincredible thought into every detail. Seeing everything unfold in person, Irealized just how carefully the day had been planned. There was no chaos orconfusion. Everyone seemed to know exactly where they needed to be, allowingthe day to unfold naturally.

Her mother’s soft hands helped with the last details of her gown, and then, it was time.

Beneath the Colorado Pines

Kayla and her mother made their way toward the ceremony terrace together.

As guests found their seats, my assistant began filming while I positionedmyself to photograph each family member and friend arriving at the ceremony. Ialways make it a point to capture everyone in attendance because every personpresent is part of the couple's story.

One of the moments that stayed with me most was watching Kayla and her mom make their way toward the ceremony together. Knowing her mom had been facinghealth challenges made those steps feel even more meaningful. It was a quiet reminder that weddings aren't just about beginning a new chapter. They're also about honoring the people who helped write every chapter before it.

I positioned myself where I could photograph their walk while still keepingan eye on Damien waiting for her at the altar. As Kayla came closer, you could see the emotion building in him, too.

And when she finally reached him, Damien embraced his bride with a long kiss.

For just a moment, it felt as though they both exhaled.

The light was gentle and flattering, allowing every smile, tear, glance, andembrace to photograph naturally.

As a photographer, I immediately noticed how the surrounding pine trees created soft, even lightthroughout the ceremony. It allowed me to focus entirely on the emotions unfolding in front of me instead of worrying about harsh midday sun. The light was gentle, flattering, and consistent, making every smile, every tear,and every embrace look beautifully natural.

The Ceremony

With every shutter click, I witnessed their nerves melted away, and for a brief moment it was simply the two of them standing together beneath the Colorado pines.

Then came the vows.

They weren't polished or rehearsed.

They were honest.

You could hear how much they relied on one another, how they encouraged one another, and how deeply connected they had become while building their family together. They spoke with vulnerability, gratitude, and a love that felt beautifully authentic. Listening to their vows, it was clear they had becomeone another's greatest source of encouragement and strength.

As I photographed the ceremony, I found myself turning around almost asoften as I photographed the couple. Parents smiled through tears. Friends watched with quiet admiration. Every face told its own story, reminding me thatweddings are shared experiences, not just private promises.

The sage green and lavender details looked stunning against the toweringpine trees, and the soft overcast skies created the most beautiful light imaginable. As a photographer, I couldn't have asked for better conditions. Theforest acted like one giant natural soft box, allowing every expression, everyembrace, and every tear to be captured beautifully.

We're choosing each other forever… I heard them say. Their intentional new birth of their connection. Damien and Kayla held each other closely with a kiss. Their officiant announced them as Mr. & Mrs. Damien Vega.  Then he lifted her effortlessly into his arms….

My first instinct was to follow them.

As a photographer, those are the moments I treasure most. The ceremony is over, the nerves begin to fade, and for the first time all day, the couple is simply... together.

Their wedding coordinator gently asked me to give them a few minutes alone.

At first, it was hard.

I kept thinking, This is where the story is.

But then I realized something.

They needed those moments far more than I needed the photographs.

A few quiet minutes.

A chance to breathe.

A chance to eat something.

A chance to look at each other and realize... Some couples leave an impression long after the wedding day is over. Kayla and Damien are one of those couples. Watching the way they encouraged one another, laughed together,and quietly stood beside each other through every emotion reminded me that the strongest marriages are often built long before the vows are spoken. Their wedding wasn't simply the beginning of a new chapter. It was a celebration of the life, the family, and the love they had already begun building together.

"We're married."

Kayla had been running on pure emotion all afternoon. She admitted she was hungry and even a little cold. Damien wrapped his jacket around her shoulders while they shared a few appetizers and simply enjoyed being together.

When I walked over a few minutes later and quietly asked if they were ready for portraits, Kayla smiled without hesitation.

"Absolutely."

That smile told me everything.

She had taken a breath.

She had warmed up.

She was ready to celebrate.

As photographers, we're invited into moments most people never notice. The quiet ones. The emotional ones. The ones that are over in seconds but remembered for a lifetime. Kayla and Damien's wedding was filled with those moments.

The Quiet Moment

We wandered across one of the small bridges tucked into the landscape, where I photographed some of my favorite portraits of the entire day. The venue stretched out behind her, framed by towering pines, while the gentle sound of the nearby water added to the peacefulness of the moment.

Those portraits didn't feel rushed.

They felt deserved.

After everything leading up to the ceremony, this was finally their time together.

 Some people tell me they're uncomfortable in front of a camera.

Kayla was one of those people.

Then I picked up my camera.

Within minutes, she relaxed into the moment. Every smile, every glance toward Damien, every quiet laugh felt effortless. She wasn't performing for the camera.

She was simply enjoying her new husband.

Damien was every bit her match.

He has a wonderful sense of humor, and it shows in so many of their portraits. Whether he was making Kayla laugh or showing off a bit of his confidence, his personality brought an energy that made photographing them an absolute joy.

Together, they created photographs that felt both editorial and completely authentic.

I always feel slightly rushed during portraits because I want time to imagine each photograph before I create it.

Portrait time always seems to pass too quickly.

Every wedding photographer works within a timeline, but there's a part of me that always wants just a little more time.

Before I lift my camera, I find myself imagining the finished photograph hanging on a wall years from now.

Portraits Beneath the Pines

As I watched Kayla and Damien throughout the day, I couldn't help but admire the quiet strength they share. They have already built a family together, and the way they encouraged, supported, and leaned on one another wasevident in every part of the day. Their wedding wasn't simply the beginning ofa new chapter. It was a celebration of the life they had already begun buildingtogether, surrounded by the people who love them most.

The portraits and editorial-style images turned out exactly as I had envisioned. While I always arrive with ideas in mind, I rarely plan every pose. I prefer to immerse myself in the moment, visualize what each scene can become, and let the day unfold naturally.

‍ I don't believe every image needs to be carefully choreographed.

Kayla and her bridesmaids laughed,embraced, and celebrated together, raising their bouquets toward the Coloradosky beneath the towering pines. Their joy was effortless and contagious,creating some of my favorite images of the day.

Damien's playful strength became another memorable part of the story. Watching him effortlessly scoop Kayla into his arms inspired me to recreate that same fun, lighthearted energy with thewedding party. Those moments of laughter and connection became memories just asmeaningful as the formal portraits.

Cherishing the Moments

It wasn't just me cherishing these moments.

Watching Kayla and Damien together, it felt as though they were quietlydrinking each other in, wanting to remember every smile, every touch, and everysecond of the day.

The shutter clicked almost effortlessly as we wandered beneath the iconicColorado pines. Soft sunlight filtered gently through the trees, wrapping themin the most beautiful natural light. They danced, laughed, shared quiet kisses,and instinctively reached for one another. Every embrace felt genuine, everyglance unspoken, and every photograph became another piece of their story.

I felt like it was a movie that Thursday afternoon skipping school or work. But, I was working… secretly if I thought about it.

Photographs preserve what happened. The best ones help us remember how it felt.

The Celebration

During the reception, part of me simply wanted to sit back and watch.

‍

And for a few moments... I did.

There is something incredibly special about witnessing the moment when awedding day begins to slow down. The nerves are gone, the vows have beenspoken, and the celebration settles into laughter, conversation, and gratefulhearts gathered around one another.

The meal they had chosen was absolutely delicious, and every table seemedthoughtfully arranged with the people who had helped shape their lives. Familyand lifelong friends filled the room, creating an atmosphere that felt warm,welcoming, and deeply personal.

Their introduction as Mr. and Mrs. wasn't loud or over-the-top.

It was gentle.

Almost quiet.

They entered the room beaming at one another, smiling the kind of smile thatonly comes after realizing, We really did it.

Sometimes the loudest moments of a wedding aren't the ones that leave thegreatest impression.

Sometimes it's quiet.

As I packed away my camera later that evening, I found myself thinking about all of the little moments that made this wedding unforgettable. Breanna quietly offering her necklace. A bride's trembling hands before walking down the aisle. A groom who finally relaxed the moment he held his wife. A little boy contenton a couch while the excitement unfolded around him.

The strongest marriages are often built long before the vows are spoken. Watching Kayla and Damien throughout the day, it was easy to see that they had already begun building a life rooted in love, family, and unwavering support for one another.

Wedgewood at The Pines provided a breathtaking backdrop, but it was the people, the relationships, and the quiet moments in between that made this wedding so memorable.
